Under each guest: its requested type · ✓ = matched · ↔ = legal swap
Swap two pieces if either could capture the other by chess rules, until every marked square holds its requested type.
A small nudge
Rules & keyboard
The letter under each piece is the type that square requests. ✓ means matched; → means still misplaced.
Tap a piece, then a piece marked ↔ to exchange them. Either piece may supply the legal movement; the other is carried back to its partner’s square. Both pieces keep their types.
♜ R = rook: any distance along a row or column.
♝ B = bishop: any distance diagonally.
♞ N = knight: two squares then one at right angles; jumps.
♚ K = king: one square in any direction.
Rooks and bishops cannot pass through any other piece. Unmarked squares are empty space: lines may cross them, but pieces can only swap between occupied squares. Identical types cannot swap.
Unlike chess, no pieces are captured, there are no sides, check, enemy turns or special moves. A matched piece may leave its square. Any solution wins; the proven minimum is optional.
Tab into the board, use arrow keys to explore, Enter or Space to select and swap. Escape cancels selection. U undoes; R resets. Undo is unlimited.
